EcoRaster for Paddocks and Turnouts

The typical paddock or turnout starts out dry. However the continued hoof action combined with saturated sand soon churns the area into a muddy mess. Ecoraster can help you eliminate mud in your paddock or turnout by creating a structural separation between your animals and the drainage layer below.

The EcoRaster acts like a snowshoe to easily carry and spread the loads created by your animals. Because the material inside the EcoRaster is not compressed it continues to foster better drainage. A gravel base below the EcoRaster will provide even better drainage.

This is ideal for paddocks, turnouts, livestock handling areas, gates, feed areas, alleys and other high traffic areas where mud often occurs.

Because the EcoRaster locks together into a single continuous surface you can easily clear the surface of manure.

EcoRaster for Paddocks and Turnouts

Investing in good footing in your paddock or turnout only to have to replace it because your horses have promptly mixed it in with the base and sub-base is both frustrating and expensive. Thankfully EcoRaster can help you stretch your investment by acting as a barrier between your animals and the ground below.

On your left are shown three possible installations for your paddocks or turnouts. The first installation simply lays EcoRaster on top of your existing ground (In all cases your existing ground should be graded to a 1 to 2% slope). This type of installation assumes your existing ground is capable of handling/absorbing your rainfall.

The second installation uses a small leveling course which provides improved support and drainage. Additionally it adds a layer of geosynthetic fabric which absorbs water without allowing dirt to percolate up into the footing.

The third installation adds a layer of course gravel to provide additional support and drainage. An optional top layer of footing material is also included in this design however many paddocks use the EcoRaster as the top finish because it makes it easy to clean the manure and debris out of the paddock.
