Calving maternity pen with center mounted self-catch head gate provides unmatched accessibility in a stable pen structure.

Calving Enclosure / Maternity Pen
Safe and Efficient Calving Pen
- The self-catch calving pen head gate with adjustable stanchions is centered in the front panel to provide unmatched access to the cow. The centered position of the cow offers excellent access to either side which is particularly good when you are trying to get twins to suck, or if you’re trying to milk out on one side while a calf sucks on the other side
- The convenient handler gates on either side of the head gate come with self-locking plunger latches for quick secure access
- Livestock aren’t tempted to test the heavy duty 66” high side panels
- Like the trimming chute, the calving enclosure comes with split side panels mounted to the front calving enclosure frame. These panels can be swung out to the sides of the enclosure to assist in catching the cow. The split panels will hit the sides at an angle leaving a safe zone at the front of the enclosure for the handler
- Folding braces allow you to swing the split panels in beside the animal and lock them securely in position for maximum animal control
- Two ¼” x 48” chains with quick links are included to allow you to anchor to any of the four split panels. Attach the chains end-to-end to lengthen the chain when required
- When calving is over you can easily remove the split panels to create a 10’ x 10’ pen. The overall enclosure size including front extensions is 10’ wide x 12’ long x 66″ high. The side panels extend 2’ beyond the head gate for superior stability.
- The rear frame with gate is only 7’ tall so it will fit in most barns

The Auto Catch Calving Head Gate
This heavy duty self-catch head gate, which is standard equipment on our calving/trimming chute and Calving Enclosure, can also be bolted to a set of posts.
The economical calving head gate has many of the same features as our heavy duty self-catch Parallel Axis Squeeze head gate. Unlike the Parallel Axis cattle squeeze head gate this head gate does not include sheet metal side guards or a head-tie-down chain. Both the head gate handle and the width adjustment drop pins are simplified.
Like the PA cattle squeeze head gate the calving head gate will open fully, both in and out of the calving chute. This eliminates the threat of hip lock found with other head gates.

Customer Review
I bought a Hi-Hog calving enclosure because the head gate is located in the center of the pen with a split gate on each side. I really like the head gate in the center especially for trying to get calves to suck or milking a cow out. I also think it is easier to pull a calf, or, if a cow happens to go down on you. My vets have also said that they prefer this set up to one with the head gate on the side. I have had this pen for thirteen years now and while it seemed like a lot of money initially I would not be without it now. I have used this to breed a lot of cows and for other jobs and have even put mature cows in it and dehorned them and worked on big bulls without doing any damage to the pen and have never had an animal move it any noticeable amount.
